In 2026, the UK government updated several OZEV grant schemes and EV charging regulations.
From 1 April 2026, the UK Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) increased the maximum Workplace Charging Scheme grant from £350 to £500 per charging socket. Several residential and workplace charging grants have also been extended until 31 March 2027.(The amount awarded is normally limited to 75% of the eligible purchase and installation costs, subject to the maximum allowance for each scheme.)
| Grant Category | New Maximum Rate (from 1 April 2026) | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Workplace Charging Scheme | Up to £500 per socket | Up to 40 sockets across all sites per applicant |
| Households with On-Street Parking | Up to £500 per socket | One grant per eligible household |
| Tenants & Flat Owners | Up to £500 per socket | One grant per eligible applicant |
| Residential Landlords | Up to £500 per socket | Up to 200 sockets per year per applicant or group |
| State-Funded Education Institutions | Up to £2,000 per socket | Up to 40 sockets across all sites per applicant |
Three previous OZEV schemes—the Staff and Fleets Grant, Commercial Landlord Chargepoint Grant and Residential Landlord Infrastructure Grant—closed to new applications on 31 March 2026.
The Depot Charging Scheme supports UK fleet operators installing charging infrastructure for battery-electric vans, heavy goods vehicles and coaches.
The second application window is expected to:
Eligible applicants must operate in the UK, own or lease at least one UK depot and operate—or plan to operate—at least one battery-electric van, HGV or coach. The charging infrastructure must primarily serve commercial vehicles.
The government has not yet confirmed the grant rate or maximum award for the second window. Applicants should therefore not assume that the first window’s 70% funding rate and £1 million maximum award will apply.
For fleet operators, early preparation should include charger selection, grid-capacity assessment, civil-work estimates, site layout, expected vehicle duty cycles and a phased deployment plan.
